The Director, Francis Stockwell, has got something exciting
to say and he is well on the way to success with this interesting
choir. I enjoyed the whole record, but especially a couple of
solo items by Jeremiah Alto (who confusingly is a second treble).
His performances of the Holy City and Die Forelle are absolutely
beautiful - probably the loveliest new sound I have heard this
year. His singing is intelligent and his diction perfect. I
should warn you, however, that he has a little crackle occasionally.
Perhaps it was the start or tail end of a throat infection.
Believe me, it in no way detracts from a most moving performance.
Oddly enough, it almost adds to it. His Die Forelle ranks easily
with the best of the WSK - glorious!
After the Holy City the whole choir sing a version of Mallotte's
Lord's Prayer. Mr Stockwell likes to live dangerously. The boys
sing a capella and s..l..o..w..l..y. They are lucky children to
have the opportunity to sing a wide range of music and sing it
well.
This is definitely not a CD to be shelved. This is a CD to be
listened to. I have played it three times already (and Master
Alto six times). There is so much to enjoy here. Invest now!
